"War of the Moroses"

It's fast becoming one of the most popular parties at the downtown bar Happy Ending - but at first, manager Bob Hughes wanted nothing to do with the Visions of the Apocalypse Goth party.

"They would refer to it as 'the Goth party,' and that would make me shiver," says Hughes of the party's promoters. "I would imagine one of our regular customers walking in and seeing all these kids with dark hair and tailored jackets and sunken faces going, 'What the hell? What kind of vision of the apocalypse have I wandered into?'"

That said, the 4-month-old, twice-monthly happening has been so successful - with guest deejays like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner and Interpol's Carlos D. - that Hughes added another Goth night, called the Death Party, to satiate morbid types looking for a depressingly good time.

"I'm surprised that a party that's promoted as a Goth night could be so successful," Hughes marvels. Click here for the rest of this review
