Oh My Goth is an independent gothic, fetish and alternative clothing retailer based in Havant, Hampshire. Oh My Goth has been in business since 2001 and is run by two ladies, Jo and Bev. I recently visited their establishment for a coffee and chat about their shop, the interesting clothes they sell and more

How did you get started in the fetish business?

Jo : I've always had a long term ambition to open my own gothic and fetish clothing shop. An opportunity came up to take the space upstairs in this building so I went for it! This was in 2001. I was based upstairs for two years, then Bev and I went into partnership together last year and moved downstairs into our present space when it became vacant. Bev was also into the whole gothic and alternative scene and was looking to get involved in something like this. We have a great working relationship!

What is the basic idea and ethos behind Oh My Goth! ?

We're passionate about everything gothic, fetish and alternative. We wanted to bring something different and interesting to the area in a classy way while avoidung a stigma. We consider ourselves a very open minded shop. We have in stock all sizes for men and women and anything you cant see in your size we can order for you!

Can you tell me more about the sort of ranges you carry?

We have a lot of different uniforms, sexy lingerie, we have bondage gear and a good range of fetish shoes and boots. We have a lot of clothing in a variety of gothic materials - velvet, lace, web and mesh. We're an official stockist for Alchemy Jewelry and we also have a good range of official band merchandise from a wide variety of alternative bands. We're starting to expand into latex and rubber, and we have a number of catalogues in the shop you can order more unusual items from. We can also order in plus sizes of most clothing.

Phew! Thats a lot of different stuff!

We have more! We also have gothic giftware, decorations and ornaments, handbags, gothic makeup and accessories! We have something for almost everyone! We even do private shopping appointments in the evening (by prior arrangement) for anyone needing a discreet shopping experience! There's no other shop in Havant even remotely like Oh My Goth!

What can you tell me about your customers and the things they tend to buy?

We're looking to do special / themed late night shopping events and get more involved with the local alternative scene. We already have a lot of posters and flyers in the shop for clubs, bands and other interesting events. A lot of people come in to see what's going on! Longer term we're looking at doing our own fashion shows hopefully in the New Year of which we've done before and they have been very successful and moving into dedicated premises. We'll also be looking to put up an official Oh My Goth! website and do more business by mail order.

The old adage is true, when it comes to quality, you get what you pay for!
