Fetish Club Nemesis II
Nemesis is one of the best known names in the UK fetish scene. Started over 20 years ago, the founders of Nemesis were often to be found (or not as was often the case) lugging equipment through the dark doorways of private homes or hidden venues in a highly conspicuous manner. At the time the scene was very much underground and purpose designed equipment difficult to come by. In fact, finding out anything about the scene at all was practically impossible. However, in the interests of freedom of development and because the fetish scene answered an important part of our founders lives, they decided to design, build and transport their own machines. It was the travelling aspect of the task that lead to the distinct features of Nemesis equipment, that of transportability and strength. Each piece had to reduce down to parts small enough to fit in the boot of a car whilst being sturdy enough to take the hammering involved in a gathering. Some machines had to be large enough to take an adult and, just to add to the difficulties, it also had to look the part and invoke the aura of a medieval dungeon. Our intrepid founders beavered away. Some pieces were started and never finished whilst others were grown from the combination of new material and the waste bin. Over the years these pieces were the foundation of the easily recognisable, distinctly Nemesis style of dungeon equipment that you see today. On the scene side it was just as difficult as very few people were aware of its existence even less knew how to become part of it. Information about the scene was extremely hard to come by and often involved whispers in night club corners and visits to dingy newsagents with an ample supply of brown paper bags. To help the scene develop, Nemesis organised events all over the country employing venues from the local pub to the York Dungeon. In order to ensure that only the people for whom Nemesis would work were invited our current DM used to spend more time listening to people's fantasies than a psychologist. If the face fit the words and the words fit the scene then a cautious introduction would be offered. If taken, the invitee would then meet people of a similar outlook and, gently, gently, meet genuine scene players. Over the years Nemesis built an excellent reputation both for equipment and the events, which included coercing some skilled people to demonstrate techniques in bondage, domination, flogging, safety, role-play and period dress, as well as the DM showing the finer points of how to use equipment. Nemesis also designed and built period props for various theatre groups and companies as well as for one or two magicians. As the fetish scene has come closer to the general awareness of the public conscious through mediums such as the Internet, Cable television, terrestrial television, tabloid press, sex shops and Eurotrash, it has been easier to publicise the presence of entities such as Nemesis. Clubs such as Dominion, Lash, Nightshade and, of course, events like the Rubber Ball and the Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar. These have grown to meet the need of people who like to use their imagination in their free time and wish to pursue their experiences outside of their home. With the growth of the number of events in the UK and the widespread use of the Internet it has become possible to reach a wider audience which is why, in 2003, Nemesis decided to take the bold step of investing in premises in which to design, develop, test and sell new equipment and machines.
