What Should a Master Be?

What should a Master be? The question can only be answered individually by both Masters and fledglings alike. Here is my rendition of what a Master should be. Spanking Implements

There are a wide variety of flagellation toys, and each type behaves differently with respect to the physical factors described below, consequently requiring its own particular set of techniques. Some are made to traditional designs, originally intended for non-consensual use on humans, such as the 'cat o'nine tails' and schoolmaster's cane, or on animals, such as riding crops and bullwhips. Others are adaptations or original designs made with SMers in mind, and still others are improvised 'pervertibles' like slippers and wooden spoons.

All these implements have two basic components: a handle (which in some improvised implements like rulers can be simply the end you choose to hold) and a striking surface. This striking surface is usually what's used to classify the implements. Its flexibility can vary from the relatively rigid wooden paddle through canes to the rubber of a purpose-made flogger. Postion and Posture

One of the factors that sets spanking apart from other forms of swatting is the deliberate and sometimes ceremonial positioning of the participants. While some spankings are haphazard, I prefer spankings that include the ritual of positioning.

Both the spankee and spanker adopt positions that facilitate and enhance the spanking. These positions generally work to the advantage of the spanker and the disadvantage of the spankee.

Full access to the bottom to be spanked. The spankee's position is designed to fully expose their bottom and the spanker's relative position is designed to put that bottom at a convenient angle and height. Therefore, the spanker is able completely view, tweak, pat, and spank it.

Safety. Because the spanker is in the position to easily spank the rear-end at the correct angle, it is much less likely that a blow will fall too high or too low. (Click here for more)

Emergency Training for SM Practicioners

A young woman is being hoisted in suspension bondage when the winch handle slips from her Master's hand and she plummets back to the floor. A man strains at the cuffs holding his hands above his head and the overhead eyebolt pulls loose; he crashes onto the floor, and the heavy chain attached to his wrist cuffs then crashes down upon him. A man quietly waiting for a lecture to begin at an SM club meeting suddenly slumps to the floor; the people who go to his aid discover that he has no pulse.

All of the above are examples of actual emergency situations that have arisen within the SM community. Of course, many, many more incidents have also occurred. Indeed, when I'm asked to give an "SM for Beginners" talk, one of my favorite observations is "we are talking here about an activity in which it's common for two people to go off alone together, and for one of them to tie the other very securely and then proceed to beat them with various blunt instruments.
